Of course, when all the snow finally melted it led to some pretty severe flooding in parts of Hastings County. Most people don’t realize it but garden gnomes have an aversion to water. For one thing, we can’t actually move our arms and legs so swimming is a bit of a problem. The other issue is that since we’re made of stone we sink like a…well…you know…a stone.
Once the weather starting improving I began my travels. The Comfort Country website said I should “explore the four,” so I’ve been to Madoc, Marmora and Tweed as well as Stirling. Later this summer I plan to venture further north, I may even hit Bancroft for the Rockhound Gemboree, an event that for some reason has always been close to my heart.
Of course this will be a big summer in Stirling, with the 150th birthday celebrations. I doubt I’ll be getting much sleep from Aug. 15-24, but we gnomes are well known for our enjoyment of a good party. Get a few mugs of warm cider into us and there’s no telling what we might get up to!
I think I may be small enough to sneak into the Kid’s Day Parade on Aug. 21, although I don’t want to get stuck walking behind the elephant. I had a bad experience following a team of horses in a parade once and I certainly don’t need a repeat of that.
I think I will have to wrap things up here. I’m still learning how to use the computer and I have to ask one of my hosts to type this for me, and I don’t want to keep him too long. Once when my hosts were away I tried to get the dog to help me, but she just wanted to look up her friends on Facebook, and every 10 minutes she’s looking for food, so it wasn’t very productive.
I’m sure with the nice weather I’ll have plenty to write about next time.
Until then enjoy the warmth and if you see a gnome, give him a hug! |
